Mt Tomah Botanic Gardens

Mt Tomah Botanic Gardens is the cool climate garden of the Royal Botanical Gardens and Domain Trust.
Plants not suited to Sydney’s climate thrive in the Blue Mountains fresh air, 1000 metres above sea level on a basalt capped peak. The garden contains over 6,000 plant species and 40,000 plant specimens and contains a variety of native wildlife.
The theme of Mt Tomah Botanic Gardens emphasises cool-climate plants from around the world, especially those from the southern hemisphere.
This beautiful botanic garden is a great place to relax, breathe in the cool, clean mountain air and discover the world of plants at your leisure.
You will find that you have a greater love and appreciation of plants at the end of your visit.
The gardens change every season so you can visit 4 times a year and see 4 different gardens as well as calendar events, exhibitions and festivals to inspire and entertain you.
The Blue Mountains Botanic Garden, Mount Tomah was established in 1972 and opened to the public on 1 November 1987 as a project of the 1988 Bicentenary of British settlement of Australia.
The Darug Aboriginal peoples were the original occupants and who are recognised as the traditional owners. Tomah is said to be a Darug word for ‘Tree Fern’, a signature plant of the area.
