Group Transport for NDIS-Funded Community Outings

Comfortable Group Bus & Coach Hire for Disability Community and Social Outings Across Sydney, for Ambulant Participants Travelling With Their Support Workers

Getting out into the community is one of the most valued parts of life for many people living with disability, and group outings are at the heart of it. Sydney Charter Bus Australia is glad to provide comfortable, patient group transport for NDIS-funded community and social outings, working with disability services, group homes, day programs and the families who organise them. As with all our work, we want to be completely clear and honest about what we can and cannot offer, so that every passenger travels safely and every booking is the right fit.

⚠ Please Read First: How We Work With the NDIS

Sydney Charter Bus Australia is not a registered NDIS provider. This shapes who we can work with, and we want to be upfront about it before you enquire:

  • We can be engaged by plan-managed and self-managed participants, who are free to choose unregistered providers, and by disability services booking group transport on behalf of their clients.
  • We cannot invoice the NDIA directly and cannot take bookings that require a registered provider, including most agency-managed (NDIA-managed) arrangements.
  • We provide the transport only. We are not a disability support service and do not provide personal care or support workers.

If you are unsure how your plan is managed or whether you can use an unregistered transport provider, please check with your plan manager, support coordinator or the NDIS before booking.

✓ What We Can Offer

  • Comfortable group transport for community, social and recreational outings.
  • Transport for participants who can board and leave the coach steps independently, or with help from a support worker or companion travelling with them.
  • Stowage of folded wheelchairs, walking frames and mobility scooters in the luggage compartment.
  • A patient, unhurried boarding pace with no pressure on timing.
  • Group bookings for group homes, day programs, SIL providers and disability services.
  • Friendly, professional drivers under NSW Accreditation No. 39461.

✗ What We Cannot Offer

  • We are not a registered NDIS provider and cannot bill the NDIA.
  • Our vehicles are not wheelchair accessible, with no ramps and no lifts. Passengers cannot remain seated in a wheelchair while travelling.
  • Our drivers are not trained in disability assistance and cannot lift, transfer or provide personal care.
  • We cannot carry a participant who is unable to board the steps with their own or a support worker’s help.
  • We do not provide support workers, carers or one-to-one supervision.

Who This Service Suits

This transport works best for organised groups where a disability service or family provides the support, and we provide the coach and driver. In practice that includes:

Group homes & SIL providers Resident outings and group activities, with support workers travelling alongside to assist their own clients on and off the coach.
Day programs & community participation Social and recreational outings under Increased Social and Community Participation, where the program supplies its own staff and supervision.
Supported employment & ADEs Group transport for ambulant participants to and from supported employment, programs and activities.
Families & self-managed participants A family organising an outing for a relative who is ambulant or travels with a companion who can assist.
Disability community groups Clubs and community organisations arranging a day out, where members are supported by their own carers or companions.

The Support Worker Rule, and Why It Matters

Because our drivers cannot provide hands-on personal assistance, any participant who needs help to board, move about, alight or be supervised during the journey must travel with a support worker, carer or family member who provides that care. This is not a formality. It is how we keep every passenger safe, since the driver’s responsibility is the vehicle and the road, not personal support. When you book, please tell us the size of the group, how many passengers have mobility or support needs, and confirm that appropriate support workers will travel with the group. We will then recommend the most suitable vehicle, for example the Toyota Coaster, which has a lower step and a wide aisle that many groups find easier to board.

Popular Outing Destinations

Community outings can go anywhere, but some destinations are perennial favourites for the groups we carry, gentle, accessible-friendly and enjoyable for a full day out.

Coast & waterfront The Entrance, Cronulla, Manly and the harbour foreshore for an easy, scenic day by the water.
Gardens & parks The Royal Botanic Garden, Centennial Park and the Blue Mountains lookouts with level, sealed paths.
Clubs & meals A relaxed lunch at a local club or RSL, a reliable and comfortable group outing in any weather.
Markets & shopping Shopping centres and weekend markets for a social outing with plenty to see.
Attractions & events Wildlife parks, museums and seasonal events chosen to suit the group’s interests and access needs.

If You Need a Fully Accessible or Registered Service

If a participant needs to stay in their wheelchair for the journey, needs ramp or lift access, needs trained hands-on assistance, or the booking must go through a registered NDIS provider that bills the NDIA directly, then our service is not the right fit, and we would rather tell you so than take a booking we cannot fulfil. In that case you need a dedicated provider built for it. Good starting points:

Registered NDIS transport providers Providers registered with the NDIS Commission can bill the NDIA and offer accessible vehicles with trained disability support staff.
Wheelchair-accessible vehicle (WAV) operators Ramp and hoist-equipped vehicles where passengers travel secured in their own wheelchair.
NDIS & Transport for NSW resources The official NDIS website and Transport for NSW provide information on accessible and funded transport options.
