1.  Purpose

This Environmental & Sustainability Policy establishes Sydney Charter Bus Pty Ltd’s commitment to environmentally responsible operations, sustainable transport solutions, and continuous improvement in environmental performance across all business activities.

As an accredited operator under the NSW Bus Operator Accreditation Scheme (BOAS), this policy integrates with the company’s Safety Management System (SMS), ensuring environmental considerations are embedded within operational risk management, maintenance practices, and compliance obligations.

2.  Scope

This policy applies to:

All employees, drivers, contractors, and subcontractors
All company-owned and subcontracted vehicles
Depot operations, administrative activities, and on-road services
All charter, corporate, school, and government transport services

3.  Legislative & Compliance Framework

Sydney Charter Bus Pty Ltd operates in accordance with applicable environmental and transport legislation, including but not limited to:

Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 (NSW)
Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL)
NSW Bus Operator Accreditation Scheme (BOAS) requirements
Relevant EPA emissions standards and guidelines

This policy is implemented in conjunction with the company’s Safety Management System (SMS), including:

Risk Register and hazard identification processes
Vehicle maintenance and inspection schedules
Incident and environmental reporting procedures

5.  Fleet & Emissions Management

Maintains strict vehicle servicing schedules in accordance with SMS and HVIS requirements
Monitors fuel consumption and vehicle efficiency as part of operational performance
Prioritises newer, lower-emission vehicles for long-distance and high-usage charters

Regular emissions-related maintenance includes:

Engine tuning and diagnostics
Exhaust system inspections
Fuel system efficiency checks

6.  Fuel Efficiency & Operational Practices

Sydney Charter Bus implements operational controls to reduce fuel consumption and emissions:

Route optimisation and journey planning to minimise unnecessary travel

Drivers are required under the SMS to:

Operate vehicles in a fuel-efficient manner

7.  Maintenance & Environmental Protection

Environmental protection is integrated into the company’s maintenance system:

Preventative maintenance aligned with BOAS SMS requirements
Immediate reporting and rectification of fluid leaks (oil, coolant, fuel)
Proper storage and disposal of hazardous materials
Use of licensed waste contractors for disposal of oils and lubricants, batteries, and filters and mechanical waste

All maintenance activities are conducted to prevent environmental contamination and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
