NRL Grand Final Sydney

Private Charter Bus & Coach Hire to the NRL & NRLW Grand Finals | Stadium Australia, Sydney Olympic Park

Grand Final Sunday at Stadium Australia is the biggest day on the Australian rugby league calendar. From early afternoon, when gates open for the NRLW Premiership Grand Final, through to the post-match fireworks of the NRL Premiership Grand Final late in the evening, the entire Sydney Olympic Park precinct is alive with colour, noise and the particular electricity that only comes with a title-deciding game of rugby league. Two premiership trophies are lifted on Grand Final Sunday. Two sets of players earn their premiership rings. And the full-capacity crowd at Stadium Australia is there for all of it.

Sydney Charter Bus Australia has been transporting groups to the NRL Grand Final since 2003. We are 100% Australian owned, a direct operator with no brokers, and every vehicle in our fleet is Transport for NSW accredited, air-conditioned and seatbelted throughout. As an accredited charter bus operator, we have access to bus-only entry points and priority parking in the dedicated coach zones at Sydney Olympic Park. Grand Final transport books months in advance. 🏉 NRLW Grand Final

The NRL Women’s Premiership, known as the NRLW, launched in 2018 as a four-team competition and has grown into one of the fastest-expanding and most watched women’s sporting competitions in Australia. The NRLW Grand Final is played at Stadium Australia on the same afternoon as the men’s decider, giving the women’s game a marquee stage before a capacity Sydney crowd. The competition now includes teams across Queensland, New South Wales and New Zealand, with a finals series structure that mirrors the men’s game.

The NRLW player of the match award is the Karyn Murphy Medal, named in honour of one of the great figures of women’s rugby league in Australia. Brisbane Broncos have been the competition’s dominant club, having won the first three NRLW Grand Finals in the competition’s inaugural years, while the Sydney Roosters claimed back-to-back titles in subsequent seasons. The competition has produced fierce, technical and deeply compelling football, and the rivalry between clubs is real, established and growing in national profile.

For families attending Grand Final Sunday, the NRLW match in the afternoon is an ideal introduction to the day, particularly for younger supporters. The football is fast, physical and fiercely contested, and the atmosphere at Stadium Australia for the women’s decider builds with each passing year as the competition finds its audience.

🏉 NRL Grand Final

The NRL Premiership Grand Final has been played at Sydney Olympic Park every year since 1999, with the sole exception of the COVID-affected season when the match was relocated to Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium. It is the most-watched annual domestic sporting event in Australia, drawing tens of thousands to Stadium Australia and millions more across television and streaming platforms. The NSW Government has secured the Grand Final at Stadium Australia until at least 2046, cementing Sydney’s status as the permanent home of rugby league’s greatest day.

The match is preceded by one of Australian sport’s great spectacles: the arrival of the Provan-Summons Trophy by Australian Army helicopter onto the Stadium Australia field shortly before kickoff. The trophy takes its name from a famous photograph taken after the 1963 Grand Final, showing Norm Provan of St George and Arthur Summons of Western Suburbs embracing in the mud after that year’s decider. Known simply as The Gladiators, the image became one of the defining photographs of Australian sport, and the bronze trophy cast from it is the most coveted prize in Australian rugby league.

The post-match ceremony includes the presentation of the Clive Churchill Medal for the best player on the ground, the premiership rings, and the trophy itself, typically concluding late in the evening, making Grand Final Sunday a genuinely full-day commitment for any group attending from start to finish.

Things to Do at Sydney Olympic Park on Grand Final Day

Arriving early gives your group time to explore the precinct between the NRLW afternoon match and the men’s evening Grand Final

Attraction What to See & Do
Brickpit Ring Walk An award-winning elevated circular walkway standing 18.5 metres above the floor of the historic brickpit, a former clay quarry operational from the early 1900s until the late 1980s that once supplied nearly 60 per cent of the bricks used to build Sydney’s homes. The 550-metre pathway floats above a protected freshwater wetland, now home to one of the largest remaining populations of the endangered Green and Golden Bell Frog in NSW. Interpretive panels and soundscapes tell the story of the site’s industrial history. A pop-culture note: the Brickpit was a filming location for Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. Free, open daily sunrise to sunset.
Cathy Freeman Park & Olympic Cauldron Named for Australia’s beloved Olympic gold medallist, the park’s centrepiece is the iconic Olympic Cauldron that Cathy Freeman lit at the Opening Ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Games, now a water fountain that cascades on the hour. At the base of the cauldron, gold, silver and bronze nameplates record the names of every Olympic and Paralympic medallist from those Games. A beautiful open space with sculptures celebrating the Olympic spirit, ideal for a walk between the afternoon and evening matches.
Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre The pool where Ian Thorpe won three Olympic gold medals in 2000 is open to the public. The Dive into History exhibition celebrates Australia’s swimming legends. Splashers Playground, with slides, spray cannons and wading areas, is ideal for families arriving in the early afternoon before the NRLW Grand Final gets underway.
Blaxland Riverside Park One of the largest outdoor playgrounds in Australia, on the Parramatta River adjacent to the precinct. State-of-the-art climbing walls, flying foxes, giant slides, water features and mega swings. Ideal for families with younger children wanting to burn energy in the early afternoon before a long evening at Stadium Australia.
Bicentennial Park Forty hectares of wetlands, cycling paths, lakes, sculptures and open space. The Badu Mangrove Boardwalk features the Dreaming Track, a poem honouring the Sydney languages of the 29 clans of Wangal Country on which Sydney Olympic Park stands. The Bay Marker lookout provides panoramic views across Homebush Bay. Ideal for a walk between the afternoon and evening matches.
Dining in the Precinct Bacar Restaurant on Olympic Boulevard for upscale contemporary dining. The Brewery Bar and Kitchen on Herb Elliott Avenue for the classic pre-game atmosphere.
